Patch 5.0.1 | Posted: September 25, 2012
This wild pet can be found on Jaguero Isle in the The Cape of Stranglethorn. It only spawns when it's raining on the island, however, this area has its own unique weather pattern. Although it might be raining in Stranglethorn, it may not be raining on the isle.
Young apes quickly learn to hang from branches with their feet, leaving both hands free to fling objects at interlopers.
Some peeps are just creeps!
You wait and wait for rain, you come in to find a horde troll KILLING all the baby apes.... NOT battling them... killing them just for spite and fun.. and giving you the /rude /laugh gesture in the process. He prob pulls the wings off flys too.
This is a great place to start leveling pets while waiting for that rain. I leveled a dozen or so to lvl 8/9 and after I got my Baby Ape I leveled those pets to lvl 14 in Tanaris waiting for sandstorm to capture Silithid Hatchling.

Couple of tips:
Northern STV, Southern STV and Jaguero Isle have separate weather. If its raining in one, it will most likely not be raining on the others.
The rain lasts for about 10-20 minutes. The length seems to be random. The Baby Apes will respawn throughout the rain.
Park an alt on the Isle or be prepared to camp. I have seen the rain multiple times and have yet to see a pattern.
Good Luck!
I really love the P/P breed with 325 power. While with 260 speed it will be vulnerable to mechanicals it can take on pretty much anything else. Smash hits insanely hard when beast racial is active. I love to use this against an Idol/Crawdad opponent I often run into. With Clobber you can stun both timely and you will hit hard enough to make them cringe. Banana Barrage is also very useful to remove Decoys and it will still leave bananas falling for two turns(around 200 damage). True powerhose.
have had mine now for months... helpful tip, i turned up the volume on my computer and was doing house work... when i was like "what the hell is that sound?" .... when it is raining on the island it makes a strong sound of "raining" and i could hear it from the other room.... looked at screen and pow 3 baby apes monkeying around...
hope this helps
A great ability combo for this pet is to start by charging your Barrel Toss, Stun with Clobber, use Rake to reduce the damage of whatever ability your opponent is using (Remain versatile, if you know they are going to use a nuke, use Rake before that happens!) and then finish with Barrel Toss. This is a rotation that has knocked out the majority of pets I've come up against, the only downside is the Baby Ape has no healing available, so go for the 4/14 breed for maximum damage results.
I check once a day to see if it's raining while I do my rounds with the pet tamers. Today I was very happy to see it was raining on the island. No baby apes however. I figured someone had already picked them clean and sat and waited hoping for a respawn. 40 minutes later, still nothing.
After months of checking, I finally hit it when it's raining and there are no apes!
Am I missing something? Do I have to dress like a banana for them to spawn?
Finally got mine!
Pro Tip: Jaguero Isle's weather is independant of STV. I logged in on an alt I parked hovering over the Isle. When I saw the rain I swept down and tamed a Green Baby Ape. I then started flying over to Booty Bay to grab a flight path to civilization. Over the water I noticed that it suddenly stopped raining. It was sunny over Booty Bay. To make sure I went back to Jaguero Isle. Sure enough, it was still raining hard.
So it was raining in STV but not a baby ape spawn to be found. I went around and killed all the other spawns (crabs, spiders, snakes, etc) and a few minutes later there were apes all over the place. When in doubt, just kill things lol...
What is going on with it raining on the Cape but not on the island?
After reading all of your comments, I went to the island to just do the Princess Poohbah quests, and when I got there...rain. I was so excited that you could hear me from the other room. I collected a Rare and Uncommon before the rain stopped. Without everyone's posts I would not have known that rain was the key....Thanks so much to everyone and this website.
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa y! Finally! Just got mine, bronzebeard 09.20am uk time :)
I wish I could spend my holiday on that island. I've been camping my alt there for months and whenever I log in, which is quite often, it is sunny.
Raining on Feathermoon, just started. 5:23 EST. YAY!!!
update: 5:42 and the rain just ended. Glad I still had that character on that server from way way way back. Just decided to log her in and park her on the isle to check for rain once in a while and just as I did I saw the first drop of rain.
Seems like a pretty quiet server. I made an announcement but no one showed up. Just little ole me on the isle. So I managed to get 2 rare B/B's and an uncommon P/P which I will gladly stone.
Some suggestions I would make are to either park an alt on the island and periodically log on it to check, or if you do fly there ask people on your realID/btag to invite you to their server to check. I found that checking the island a couple times a week at various times lead to a capture, but the realID/btag would be a better option imo.
I decided I wanted one of these yesterday, so I parked my Paladin on the Isle, and fought Strand Crabs with 1 lvl 14, 1 lvl 6, and 1 lvl 1 to level the little guys. After doing this for several hours and leveling a good number of pets, it started to rain. I snagged a poor quality, next one was uncommon...then I started searching for my rare. After fighting or killing 4 or 5 of these guys, I captured my rare last night at roughly 2245 server, on Kul Tiras.
Took 2 days and 5 rain storms to catch my rare.
Tips:
1. Use toons on multiple servers.
2. Camp full-time on one toon and check others every 2-3hrs.
(I got 2 extra rainstorms this way).
3. Go camp on a different server if no rare is caught in rainstorm on main.
4. Be considerate.
Random: I noticed rain every 6-12hrs. And I've read otherwise, but Apes despawn immediately when rain ends.
Oddly enough, saw 7 other rare pets during my last storm.
Good luck and happy hunting!
I am starting to believe this Battle Pet (Baby Ape) is a fracking myth =/
Last few days I have spent camping Jaguero Isle and zero rain. Not one drop. I have read that it doesn't rain here in the summer, but I've heard of other people finding them on other servers during this time, so....
Ugh - just frustrating #firstworldproblems
You could die from the cuteness of this battle pet. I was lucky to get a p/p blue on my first shot. I suggest parking an alt in that area and logging in to check every now and then. There's really no addons that'll tell you when it's raining there. I think these despawn when the rain stops. Or, at least, when I logged onto my alt, the rain only lasted a minute or two more. I did see a lot of babies but they seemed to disappear when the rain stopped.
Wow, crazy. The last pet I need, fly down onto the island expecting a long wait, and it starts to rain! Accidently killed the first baby ape (poor), caught the second one (common) and it stopped raining..baby apes up for under 2 minutes.
