OK, OK, I get it. You were (lucky/unlucky) enough to get this pet on the (1st/2nd /3,000th kill).

Now will somebody please tell us how well the pet fights?

Other than bragging rights or how much it sold for on the AH, how useful is it?

Is it worth the trouble to get it? Does it have any special abilities that distinguish it from all the other baby raptors that look just like it (except for color)?

Just wanted to share a tip for those also searching for Unborn Val'kyr: one of her spawn points (75,22) is right along the circuit of Gundrak raptors you kill to get the Gundrak Hatchling, so check with each circuit; for me she spawned at least twice. On another note, don't give up! 1,848 kills and he was mine. He drops into your bag unannounced showing as common quality, so make sure you have space as you may overlook him. However, he is rare quality as a BP. Yay!

I farmed this pet and it took about 785 total kills. It turns out this is the most perfect Druid farming area.

The mobs are just far enough apart that you have to ride from one to the next in a lot of cases, druid instant cast flight form makes it very quick. In addition, there are a ton of frozen herbs, which can be harvested while in flight form. I ended up with about 18 stacks of herbs.

There are a few places where you can aoe 3 at a time, but for the most part, it is single kills.

For those who like to count their kills:

One circuit around nets about 33 or so raptors, so three circuits is close to 100 kills.

Raptors always drop either a Sharpened Raptor Talon or a Sparkly Raptor War Feather. I've yet to see a raptor that drops both or neither, so counting your stacks of those can also help you keep track of your kills!

I'm at 1500 and still counting; no hatchling yet but I'm not giving up! I just keep telling myself it'll be with number fifteen-hundred-and-one...two...three!

I tried to farm for this guy YEARS ago and quit each time after hundreds of kills. Today, I decided to try again. Got him after about 40-45 kills. Needless to say my mouth dropped. But my advice is definitely to farm him on a Druid - super fast kills with travel form + you can make sure said Druid has herbalism/skinning for extra money. Kill two birds with one stone!

Talk about unlucky; 3889 attempts according to Rarity. Can confirm it still drops as of September 2020 though. XD

Years ago, I would kill a couple hundred a day, until inevitably someone else came to farm the area. Never got it to drop and eventually gave up. If I happened to go to Northrend I may stop by the area but often didn't. Today I went on a whim and got the drop on my 7th kill! Pretty sure my heart stopped for a second.

I love this site, but from what I can tell the drop rate listed right now (1/110) is incorrect.  According to other major sources the Gundrak Hatchling is closer to 1/1000.  Boo.  :P. Still, it's better odds than the sea turtle (from Hell's heart, I swear to God).

Update:  over 1600 and counting.  Yeah....

964 kills so far, hoping to get some luck from posting!
Good luck to you all still waiting on this pet!
We are all kidnappers, slaughtering the parents to steal their innocent children. Their cute, innocent children. Who apparently don't miss their mommies and daddies.... Perhaps they were waiting to be rescued by us?
Update: After 9 hours and 2258 kills this little guy is finally mine! Perhaps I didn't invoke the luck power of the post properly...

I finally got him! :) been farming on and off for 2 days now. The funny part is was farming and talking on gchat alot and didn't even notice that I had gotten him lol. I have it set where I can scroll back forever and was selling a bunch of trash and omg... I finally noticed that he was in my bag :p So I started scrolling back and jeez.. it showed that I had gotten him an hour and a half before I even noticed it in the bag. I am estimating it took me 550 kills from LootCount. He is Cute! :)

I personally use my DK to farm these lil guys. A nice tip when farming them: there are two spots on opposing sides of the largest temple where you can tag four raptors at once. (Tagging two with Icy Touch, then Dark Command on a third, Death Gripping the fourth) On a land mount, you can alternate between them with very little downtime. As of the time this has been posted, I have gotten three hatchlings using this method.

Good luck to all those that set out to farm these guys!

I decided to start farming this on my hunter since I was in Zul'Drak and wanted to see if there were any other cool pets to get.  I killed about 30 raptor, then had to leave to do something else.  A couple days later I had to come back with my shammy to get herbs, and I decided to take another shot at it.  I did about 2 hours of killing all the raptors I saw, and it just dropped on about my 200th kill of the day.  Very excited to have this guy to go along with my Lashtail.  Wouldn't sell it for 10k... :)

There are exactly 33 raptors. 19 are in the southeastern section, and 14 are in the northwestern section. Good for frozen herbs, about 50% are Gold Clover, 25% are Tiger Lily and 25% are Talandra's Rose. On average, a tad less than 2 skins per kill and about 99 kills/hour.

It took me about 1250 kills before this hatchling dropped for me, and a week of farming, with at least 100 kills per session. I counted 1228 kills, but I had a few more when doing archaeology in the area.

This crafty raptor was born in the icy wastes of Northrend. Its harsh upbringing gives it strength when many others would perish.
