This is one of several raptor companions introduced in patch 3.2. Upon its initial release, this pet dropped from Takk the Leaper, a rare spawn found in the northeastern Barrens roughly every 4-6 hours.

As of patch 3.3, the Leaping Hatchling became a lootable item from Takk's Nest.

This pet will occasionally leap to its owner's feet.

This little beauty is definitely one of the more lively pets, and also has some separation issues... Stairs? Who needs them? Stairs happen to other pets. No, he'll just leap straight off the balcony and be right at your feet before you can so much as blink.

I suppose the heart attack you just got from seeing your little baby dive off a ledge is what you get for being a bad example and showing him that it's okay to cut corners by jumping off of high objects, you bad parent you.

3.3 Patch notes

Hatchlings: Leaping, Darting, Razormaw, and Ravasaur Hatchlings no longer drop from their associated rare creatures. Instead, there are now rare nests that spawn which contain these hatchlings. For example, the Leaping Hatchling can now be found in Takk’s Nest rather than as a drop from Takk the Leaper.

Definately one of my favourite hatchlings due to its "leap" animation which often see's it whistling past your ear when running from place to place. (If you forget you've got him out this can take you by surprise... I have often been seen rushing around Dalaran screaming "get it out of my hair!")

There's a bunch of coords where the nest spawns:
58.5, 8.3
59.5, 8.5 (<- I found it on this one)
60.3, 10.1
60.7, 13.3

The spawn times is not related to Takk nor Takk's death and it must take more than 2 hours to spawn (I tried timing it, but rl didn't allow me to be consistent).

I tried camping 60.3, 10.1 because most people report having found it there, just take a stroll around the area every now and then to make sure you're not camping the wrong tree.

best of luck!

I swear the rare raptors come back faster if you kill the mobs in the spawn area. I've had particularly good luck with Takk and Dart. Plus it gives you something to do while you wait, especially if you're a skinner.

Was able to find this fellow the day the patch dropped on my Alliance alt. (My pet collector, of course.) Takk has been hard to find on my server since unless you count corpses. The thing about this one that amuses me most is his little shriek noise he makes just as he realizes he needs to leap back to 'mommy' (or daddy!)

By far the easiest of the Raptors to get.

I found mine like this:  Start from Nozzlepot's Outpost, then go East slightly (not down the hill).  There is a wide grassy path that goes Southeast and skirts the eastern side of the mountain.  I found the nest behind the first large tree on my right.  I went back a few minutes later, and the nest is gone.  I don't think the nest is always there, and I get the idea that it spawns in different locations around the area.  Tak was further south along the same path.

The nest has several spawn places listed below. The nest is not hidden and easily looted if its there.

Found the nest at the NW spawn point literally seconds before another player showed up from the opposite direction! I checked all the other spawns just in case, and ran into Takk the Leaper (named rare raptor.) I wonder if the nest respawn time is tied to the rare spawn being up?

This offspring of Takk the Leaper is incredibly agile and can maneuver through difficult environments with ease.
