Patch 5.0.1 | Posted: September 25, 2012
With the extra large surface area of their legs, snowshoe hares are able to effortlessly hop along the snow while their pursuers get bogged down in the drifts.
I came across some info about this elusive pet.
There's a trick to getting the Snowshoe Hare to spawn.Â
Go to the Ruins of Alterac in Hillsbrad Foothills. Sweep the snowy areas N&S of the ruins. Look for clear white snow. Dont look in the ruins or brown areas. Now go to the town, Strahnbrad. Therell be 3 Rat BPs there. Kill them. That triggers hares to spawn. They can spawn as critters or BPs. Kill the critters. After 1 min they both will despawn. Repeat as needed.Â
Ruins of Alterac is a zone by itself. Battle Rats[3] possibility of Hare as 2ndary, in Strahnbrad (takes up BP spots so battle 2 if they respawn). Go through Crushridge (higher % of spawns) and beyond as shown on Wowhead/Pettracker. Ignore spawn 53,23 -bugged (AoE may kill it). You don't have to kill the non-BP Hares, but you can. After I battled the Rats, the BP Hares were already spawning. The Hares de/spawn after a while, even the BP one. I got my rare this way. More info on Wowhead(Korleth).
So, after getting absolutely bored after 3 days of farming secondary pets in conjunction with my Lofty Libram search, I seem to have found the key to pet farming...
Find one of the spawn points of the Snowshoe Hare and kill it. The critters are instant spawning, and will just spawn after like 20 seconds, if it stops spawning, check the other spawn points. At some point, a battle pet Snowshoe Hare will spawn in the critter spot, viola. Â I got my rare in 10 minutes after 3 battles.
I finally got it just a few mins ago. It was only poor quality but it's better than nothing. It came in as a add from a Rat. I found it at 58,72 I hope this helps people get theirs! :)Â
In Alterac there are always only TWO SH up, normal or BP. They vanish/burrow between spawn points in Alterac (see wowhead map), but only change form at respawn so kill all non-BP hares and keep going. Dead hares respawn immediately somewhere else in the area and could come back as a BP. Also try to keep spawn areas clear so mobs don’t interrupt. I lost my rare moments before caging it when a yeti interrupted. Saw them everywhere as adds but finally got my rare in Alterac.
Got mine as a secondary pet to the rat in Dalaran Crater. Â It was poor but I will take it and use a battle stone. Â Good Luck all!
Just in case this hasn't been commented before, they burrow after about 30 seconds or so, didnt actually time it, placeholders need to be killed for pets to spawn, they burrow as well.
Yea I have also seen them as seconds, on other pets close to the area, but assume the actuals have more chance as a rare, I've been running around 52,23Â back and forth killing the place holders, and ogres for the black tabby drop while looking for a rare one of these.
Just got mine at Dalaran Crater as an addon with a rabbid. Was checking all battlepets I could find.
This was the only and luckily rare Snowshoe Hare I found.
I captured this as I battled a rat in this area. The snowshoe hare was the additional pet to join the battle. So if you can't find the hare by itself to battle, don't get frustrated - try for a rat to see if the hare is the 2nd pet to battle!
I am not sure if anyone has mentioned this. be sure youre ready for the battle when you engage the snowshoe! i was not. my level 10 pets were almost dead, so I forfeited and healed...but the hare never came back after the forfeit. it simply disappeared.Â
Battle the three rats first. You'll need to win all three or only one Snowshoe Hair will spawn. Â
Found @ 46.26 35.03 under the tree near Giant Yeti.
THREE HOURS of circling the ruins, killing every battle pet or non-battle critter! Half disappeared before I could even interact with them thanks to that stupid phasing thing. All I wanted was an S/S breed of ANY quality. Finally gave up and went to the crater. About five minutes killing every battle pet I could find (only ended up covering the top half of the crater) and I got it. It's Uncommon, but believe me when I say the stone will be worth not having to continue that search.
Just got a rare one as a secondary pet to a [Rat] at the Dalaran Crater (Hillsbrad Foothills), if you have no luck at the ruins like me maybe this will work out for you instead. Good luck!
So I finally got a rare snowshoe hare after what feels like forever camping out in alterac mountains (I read somewhere that they only appear when the weather is snowing. I never saw it snowing to verify). Anyhow, I read somewhere that these share a spawn with the rats in strahnbrad (east of alterac mountains). Basically, fly around in circles killing the rats and non combat hares and you should start seeing them. I had the best luck in the little strip just west of strahnbrad with all the trees.Â
I didn't find any in the marked area but as everyone else said, they are found as secondary pets in Dalaran Crater. (An aside, I think it's unfair that the Dalaran mobs treat my horde mage as hostile. I trained some of them!)
Happy 2016!
Found as the primary - uncommon. Found in Crushridge with the ogres. Can confirm digging as well.Â
okay i only fund this as a battle pet rigth where Strahnbrad runs in to crushridge hold.. and they do dig themself down in the group did time it was about 1 min befor it came back up , so it is a hard pet to find but they are out there :D .... time was around 10am.. fund my rare after about 2 hours and 20 battels or so ...happy hunting
just circle a route along the outer rim of the snow covered area on your flying mount. about every 3mins or 2-3 circles a hare will appear. they will also dissapear again quickly, however, so you need to be fast! don't try killing any mobs or non-BP in the area, it is way quicker to just wait it out. I had 4 appear within 15 mins and caught an uncommon one on my 2nd attempt.
Just got one, common quality, second to a Rat in Strahnbrad. Quite hard to find this pet... jeez! Good luck.
