This pet is the cause of my Petomania. A friend told me that there are several dragons to farm, the easiest (a blue one) in Aszshara. I've killed like 1000s of the elites and was tired. But than it dropped. You all know the feeling, right? This feeling led me to farm every single Pet i can obtain - And so to this site =)

I really didn't know anything about Battle Pets when this dropped, so much so that I even went as far as just leaving it in my bank inventory for the longest time.  I tried to sell it at a very reasonable price (way below actual value) but nobody had interest or just didn't see it.  When I finally discovered I liked doing pet battles, I decided to keep it and to add it to my collection.  There it stands as a reminder, ignorance is bliss. ♥

When I met my now-fiance (we met at the Duskwood flight path), this is the first gift he ever gave me. I was shocked that he would go to the trouble to farm it for me. He's still one I pull out in raids. Boyfriend is our MT so whenever the azure comes out, he knows I'm thinking about him, encouraging him.

I know everyone always goes crazy for the Emerald Whelp because he is the rarest of the four. The Azure is technically the most common, but I really think this one is the prettiest of the four farmed whelps. His color is the brightest. Maybe that's why he's in more people's collections: more people farm for him.

I'll never forget the day I got this pet -- It was way back when it still dropped in Azshara. I was waiting for a summon for a raid and decided to try my luck and get a few kills in. It dropped on my fourth kill (I swear, Blizz was just taking pity on me for the hours and hours it took for the Emerald Whelpling). Just after looting it, I got my summon to my raid, and ran the whole thing with this little guy chasing behind me.

True Love.

I was helping my husband clear out his duplicate pets (he's only JUST NOW getting interested in them) and noticed he had this one. I commented. He said he was going to put it on the auction house since it was so rare. I cried (well, not really). Today, he decided to GIVE IT TO ME.

I am so happy. Now if all my farming of oozes in Swamp of Sorrows would finally pay off...

If you're farming for this little guy and need to repair and/or empty your bags, there's a husband and wife (presumably) pair of vendors located at 45, 91. Lower levels will want to watch out for the giant as they approach the path down to the building. There's also some rare patterns here that tend to sell pretty well on the AH.

Actually, Xarcus, if you look at Thottbot/Wowhead you'll see it DOES drop as a zone drop. Unfortunately, the drop rate is closer to 1/10,000 now. There have been drops from Winterfall furbolgs, shardtooth bears, yetis, chimaeras, ghosts....

The mobs you're seeing with the higher rates (the Kel'theril ghosts, for example) are likely mobs that respawn faster, and so there's more data for them since people farm them more often.

That said, please update the drop rate on this!

Make sure you guys are using the Rarity addon, which I am sure most of you are, but this helps counting how many times you have loot a mob with a chase of dropping a pet.  Along with knowing if a mob drops a pet.

Got mine today! Seriously lucky. After about 250 kills it dropped. The best farm area is to the right of Everlook, all of the shamans and ursas. The respawn rate is fast and you get some good greens out of it too. There is also a rare that spawns in the area Grizzle Snowpaw, and he has a 0.09% drop chance [which is higher than all of the mobs in Winterspring (0.01% to 0.05%)] but his respawn rate ranges from 3-6 hours.

Happy hunting <3

Confirming that this still drops off the fast spawning mobs in the Mazthoril cave as of patch 5.4.2.

I personally had some confusion because wowhead did not list it as a drop for any of the mobs inside the cave (out of 100,000+ kills), and was beginning to wonder if it had been removed as a drop from those mobs because they respawn so quickly.

But thankfully, it does still drop off the mobs in the cave.  In my opinion, easily the fastest way to farm this pet.

A suggestion to those farming this pet since world drop farms are the most painful. If you don't have the timbermaw rep start working on that because it then serves a purpose to the farming (and at least for me makes it easier) or if you haven't finished/or have never done all the quests in winterspring then work on those. I farmed the rep for the timbermaw and the pet did drop for me although it may not be the case since it's 1/10,000 drop. Don't give up hope on this little scaley beauty!

The good thing about this dragonling is that it's easily farmable, unlike the other 3. It may take some time for it to drop, but the mobs are lined up in a very nice route, so you can simply circle the lake. Just remember to come with lots of bagspace, since the nearest vendor is a couple of minutes away.
Took me about 4 hours for it to drop.

Got this today. Farmed winterfall village. East of ever look. Noticed the npc's started spawning faster and dropping better loot including blues. About an hour into this it dropped. I've noticed this seems to be the same on all the whelpling drops. Watch for the extra loot to start and the pets will drop soon.

After 3 days of off & on farming in Winterspring- I got one after about 500 hits.  I just stayed in the Winterfall Village and kept hitting the bear guys.  They respawn pretty fast and I thought it was pretty easy just time consuming.  Just keep trying and stay in that village!!!  Good Luck!  -Lanolan  Zul-jin Horde

I've named my Azure Whelpling "Awbee" in honor of the poor lost little whelp in Blackrock Spire. I did her quest back in the day, and it was one of my favorites. I always wanted to take Awbee with me as a pet. I was so happy when they added this pet to the game!

Only 753 kills since i started counting - which was after doing all the quests. Not bad - I came back and did the Timbermaw rep and only seven days into the Wintersaber trainers rep grind. Quite happy with this farming session and brings up my 145th. Black Tabby next...
