Patch 1.12.1 | Posted: October 14, 2014
The Bronze Whelpling was implemented during the 6.0 patch leading up to the expansion, Warlords of Draenor.
Players can find Iron Horde throughout the revamped higher level portion of Blasted Lands. Any of the Ironmarch orcs has a chance to drop the pet.

The Bronze Whelpling was lost in time until an unusual event allowed her to escape.
Looks to me like either the P/P breed or S/S will be the best breeds. P/P if you want to use a Tail Sweep/Arcane Storm setup, or S/S if you want to use the Arcane Slash/Lift-Off combo. Overall, S/S looks more interesting to me, because there are other Dragonkin that have stronger Tail Sweeps (P/P Spawn of Onyxia, for example). With the avoidance and stun, this dragon really makes the most of that 325 speed!
Indeed, finally dropped for me as well after 5 or so hours of farming.Â
The best respawn rates are near Okril'lon Hold and the mines to the immediate east. Â I never went into the mines themselves but there are about 4 separate clusters you can sit and AOE to maximize kills/minimize lookings. Â Very easy for a Mage with plenty of ranged spells. at level 100 these guys post very little threat to your overall health so you can't really be overwhelmed. now...for the crimson :)
Just wanted to CONFIRM for Enan1981: Yes, you can get the drop without having yet prepurchased the expansion. I'm broke and haven't yet purchased WoD and still was able to have this little guy drop.
So here's my story. I did the blasted lands questchain on all my lvl 90 characters (about 16), no pet drop.
So off on a grind i go.
1004 kills in Okril'lon hold, +fast respawn, -debuffs,okril'lon defenders.
Another 1001 kills in the serpentsomething mine just as you enter blasted lands. +Quick spawn/kills, -Listening to others brag about their 2 pet drops within 5 minutes.Â
249 kills in the ogre mine below altar of storms, got the pet. This is by far the place with fastest farming.
Yes you will read comments of people getting one with in moments of starting but from experience this will be a solid farm for most. It personally took me 8(ish)hrs of solid farming, a mate 11hrs.Â
As for the pet in battle it's not bad, has a nice mix of attacks and the 100% stun is pretty sweet. It's not as powerful as Stormwing is reported to be but for PvP, when you don't know what you're facing, this pet will come in very handy, but that's just my two cents. Good Luck!
S/S breed is my preference, with stun and lift-off. If you feel like using P/P then you are probably better off with Infinite/Nexus instead since they both are more powerful and slower(which helps tail sweep). Excellent pet.
My suggestion for a farm spot is in Nethergard Mines. Easy big clumps of mobs that respawns in time for a circle run.
I did the Darkmoon Faire quest "Test Your Strength" on different toons to add some extra motivation for the killing grind. When I finally got my Bronze Whelpling, it was nice to find out that unlike some other whelplings, this whelp flies with you on your flying mount.
Farmed up four of these so far. Killed 2000 mobs through 13 runs of the Nethergarde mines and a little farming outside in the Keep. Guide here on the route. I have gotten two Breeds with SS and two with PP, and I am ok with that since the rest are junk imo. But you can use Tail Sweep for power builds and Arcing Slash for speed builds. The other talents are more or less battle/playstyle dependent, except don't use Arcane Storm right before you want to use Crystal Prism...because reasons.
Drop rate is closer to 1/1000 to maybe 1/10000. But alot of people are getting them, and as they will be available after the expac hits, prices will fall on the AH. Especially for a pet thats going to drop from required killing.
Mine dropped off one of the Ogres.
I farmed mine with a friend at Okril'lon Hold, on the second floor. I got mine within an hour, and we're still working on his. The respawn rate of the orcs is *really* fast. Happy hunting to all! She's totally adorable.
I am very lucky. Dropped for me today while running the quests to get another Iron Starlette. And yes, using a lvl 104 havoc DH was fast.
I got my Bronze Whelpling just outside the Nethergarde Keep tower, round the side. Didn't take too long either. Probably less than 100 something kills and less than an hour. Nice pet, too. Mine is a Destruction (100% power/damage). Not sure if they all will be (most likely they will be), but I love destruction pets, and this one has brilliant abilities if used right. :)
Okril'lon Hold is one of the best places to farm this pet. Thank you to Pickles and Ziaom for recomending this spot. Mine dropped after about 5 kills (super lucky I know!) but I tried farming a second one for the AH and I can confirm that the mobs respawn super fast (wasn't so lucky with my second one... oh darn ;D)
First off, Pickles reccommendation about Okril'lon Hold is spot on.  The Ironmarch mobs respawn quickly and there are a bunch of them in a small area so they are easy to pull and kill.  I finally got this little guy today after 2153 kills and approximately 3 hours of farming.
Woo-Hoo! Finally!! Just got mine about 2 min ago after 1327 attempts, it is P/P. Â I was starting to wonder if I'd ever see it. Yaaay! Sssoooo Haaapppyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As of 12/29 I can confirm that it drops. BUT, mine took 2400 attempts according to rarity. This may mean that the drop rate has changed or that I am very unlucky.
I have not prepurchased WoD but mine dropped aftar around 200 kills today.
I've killed about 800 Ironmarch Orcs so far in the span of about 5 hours over the last two days. Not a single whelpling.
Took about an hour for the pet to drop, best place to farm (assuming there's noone else doing the same) I found was the outside areas of Okril'lon, including the forge building and the tower by the flight posts. Very fast spawn rate and you can pull a lot of Orcs in one go due to the close quarters.Â
