Day 36: Still no sign of the elusive Minfernal. Supply's running low. Not so much as a jucy rabbit here. Some of my pets are starting to look tasty. But I will endure...

Best way I found to do this is run around where the craters are with a target macro

/target Tainted Rat

KILL EVERY Rat you Target...

Kill relentlessly! So long as there is a Tainted Rat spawned You will NOT get a Minfernal.

I just did this and in 5 mins caused 2 to spawn.

...This is of course after i pissed 5 hours away waiting for magic to happen!

These comments are useless and asinine, no one cares when and on what server you caught yours, or how you just happened to be there not really looking and got uber lucky.  Does anyone have any pertinent info, like what is the spawn timer?  And do you have any concrete proof to add, like a blue post on the official forums?

The reason you see them on flight paths and not when you land is because of Cross Realm Zones. When you're on a flight path you are on your server. When you land you become part of the Cross Realm Server. Therefore; not the same server. GG Blizz.

ADVICE ON HOW TO CAPTURE - This pet is a "rare respawn" rather than a "rare timed spawn". So you will need to keep killing all the pets and critters in the area until the rare respawn occurs. I didn't know this till today, so was camping out in the area waiting for a spawn. When I found out I killed critters in the area for 20 mins and one spawned. As it was poor quality I captured it then kept killing critters. Another spawned after a few mins. Hope this helps...

I highly recommend the low server death knight. After clearing mobs for a couple hours, then checking here for advice, that got me my P/P minfernal.

Try and get a P/P breed one, the other breeds feels lackluster in the battle department. H/H can be useful for huge explode if you are into that. Or S/P just to be faster and Meteor Strike be slightly more useful.

Crush, Extra Plating, Meteor Strike and you got quite a little powerhouse that can last a while, with avoidance from Meteor Strike. Want to go Mech hunting, Immolate and Immolation is a nice choice, then switch to backline with someone with Plagued Blood.

Little late in posting this, but I was able to get this last Saturday morning on an alt on the Skywall server.  Was flying my own mount over from Mt Hyjal and saw a paw on my minimap.  Figured it was a rat, but was shocked that it was a Minfernal.  It was not inside the little pools, it was all by itself sort of closer to the mountain.  There were several people in the area, but they were all hovering low near the little pools. It's a poor quality but my search is over!

It really bothers me that now when you go pet hunting there are folks from other servers in the area. It seems to me Blizzard is trying to make it harder for us to get some of the pets or achievements. I have been trying since day 1 to get this pet. nope always at least 5 other folks not from my server farming as well. thanks blizzard for getting me from reaching a goal.

After the server restart, I found one hiding in a tree, circled around like a madman hitting my 'interact with target' keybind and once I got on even ground, it sent me into the battle. Until they fix it, I guess thats a way to go about it :C Good luck.

So, I have been trying forever. I followed some advice I saw on here. I used a CLASS TRIAL lvl 100 Death Knight.Once I was out of the tutorial.I didn't even go speak to saurfang.  Just went to the felwood.There were no minfernals.It started raining within minutes and some spawned.They did not have the green pet battle marker over them.But, since I hadn't seen them before I tried to right click and low and behold pet battle! I got three of them. Can't believe it worked!

Got it this morning. 2 were up. I didnt get the second one so someone else could. Grey P/S and Rare H/P. I kept the H/P and alerted the zone.

2. I got mine by logging in and seeing them on a medium pop server. I had toons camped on 5. They were there @ 11:39 server (CST)

3. These seem to spawn right after a restart or maintenance, and roughly evey 24 hours therafter.

Found mine by creating a DK on the Venture Co. Realm, parking in Shatter Scar, and logging in late night/early morning. Remember though, that this is somewhat common advice, so don't be too surprised to see another lvl 58 DK hanging around as well. However, this realm only seems to be camped by people who are frustrated by this thing and probably won't bother coming back once they get one, so just exercise a little persistence and you will get one.

Thanks everyone here for your most helpful comments!  The rat-killing strategy works!  It took a little over an hour of rat massacre and some battle pet rats came up first.  Finally the little minfernal spawned running across the grass towards the green pond.  Your sage advice saved me days of camping, and I am most grateful.  Good luck to everyone hunting this pet!

I decided to tell the 15-30 players who regularly float 'camp' above the Area 52 Minfernal spawn points about its spawning paramaters... I was met with 'no u dont kno wat ur tlking bout' 'nothing 2 do wit killin'. So, I proceeded to kill a tainted rat, and watch as a Minfernal instantly spawned in it's place, which I then battled and captured. When I came out of the battle, there were 12 players surrounding me, some of whom took the hint and began to kill critters. The more you know!

This thing is the bane of my pet collecting existence.  [excessive whining deleted]  When I finally get this guy, I'm gonna summon him, give him a biscuit, and then I'm going to slap him until I feel better.

*Edit* Caught him shortly after my 7/8/13 comment, using the spawn timer method & found a rare H/P breed on my parked dk on Venture Co by the big guy at 2:30ish PDT.  His name is Turdy Mcpoopy and yes, I slapped him.  A lot.

Got mine today, after spending 5 or so hours yesterday trying everything that sounded even remotely plausible, and another 2 hours today doing nothing but flying around. I'm of the opinion that nothing you do actually affects the spawn, and that anything people have noticed that seems to affect it is just coincidence.
