Nethaera's Light can be found at various spawn points in Dalaran.
Interacting with this NPC by using consecutive /cheer emotes will cause the candle to burn brighter and eventually ignite with a small firework. The pet is then automatically added to your Pet Journal, causing the NPC to despawn.
The spawn time on Nethaera's Light is relatively short (a few minutes), and it will usually respawn in a different location in Dalaran.
Despite being able to see and interact with Nethaera's Light after collecting one, you can collect only one per character.
This pet is a non-combat pet and cannot battle.

All the comments already made are great. I want to add a couple of critical notes after searching, finding it and getting nothing for over 3 hours. First, when you target the candle it can be anywhere nearby. I kept thinking it was very close if it was targeted. I didn't realize what was going on until i widened my search and found it pretty far from where I was standing, just as it disappeared. Second, the point about being close is critical. Do NOT /cheer until you are standing right next to the candle or it will despawn and you get nothing.
Just wanted to confirm from an ealier poster. You do not have to be the one cheering to get the pet, just close to it when it pops. Got mine this way this morning in the atrium leading up to the flight point.
Found mine in the vestibule leading to the FP landing pad. Something that might help everyone: You can set your map to show your target (click the magnifying glass, then select Target). That way you can see exactly where it is, since you can /target it from an annoyingly long distance away. From what I've seen, respawns take seven to ten minutes, so it's not too bad. It occasionally doesn't despawn right away, so if you're not getting it when you /cheer, it possibly was claimed seconds earlier.
For all us OCD collectors, this pet is the second one (the other being the Sky Lantern) that you can't use stones on to level it up. All other non-combat pets can be levelled this way.
You MUST be in close proximity to it in order for it to pop into your pet journal. Be careful if you're using a macro to both target AND /cheer - if you're too far away and spam too quickly the pet will despawn and you won't get anything (sorry to the two servers I did that to :( ).
I made a macro to /target Nethaera, but then had trouble figuring out where it was, despite putting a raid marker. I ended up using a Prismatic Focusing Lens to lead me to where it was. So if you are blind like me, this is a good way to figure out where the little fella is. Then I did the /cheer. It took me 4 cheers before it popped into my inventory.
(Previous attempts I cheered while too far away -- since I didn't know where it was and never got it)
Dont be on a mount or in druid bird form when you cheer.
Love it! Thanks for the heads up. I would have never known about this pet if it wasn't for Breanni! Found her and captured her at 9:23 am server on Garona.
Here's a tip. When you make the macro, throw in an alt command for the /cheer portion. It makes it very easy to find her as well as give her the three cheers she so richly deserves!

Found the light outside the barber in Dalaran.
Only needed to cheer one time to get the pet, but it takes a few seconds for the light to lit up.
Found it at 58, 52, right next to the flower vendor. Took about five cheers and then it popped into a firework and went into my pet journal automatically. We waited around a while so my boyfriend could get it too and it popped up almost 10 minutes later exact at 41, 40 outside of Simply Enchanting. Good luck!
I don't know if there's a better place to post 'I found it at this loc.' But, found and got mine day of 6.2 release at 41.80, 28.33 in Dalaran. Good luck all!
Found it at the little alcove where you go up the ramp to the flight path in Dalaran. Cheered at it 3 times at it disappeared. Was worried was something was wrong, but the pet is auto-added to the inventory! I would recommend using a /tar Neth and flying around. I also used the custom group finder to server hop. I randomly saw this as I was about to take a flight and had no idea what it was. As I was awaiting my destination I looked it up, and immediately flew back. I /cheer once and then it went into my journal.
Yup - I spammed the target macro near Aimee (Pie and pastry vendor) it lit up and i spammed 2 /cheers at it and bam - right into mu Pet Journal. Thx!
Wow, that was easy! target macroed it right out side the door of where I spawned in the center of Dalaran. walked a few yards and spamed cheer. it was sitting under a street light. ^_^
I just got this pet in Zandalar. It was next to Zununu in the Exotic Imports shop. I /cheer at it and a moment later it was in my journal. Also, it respawned in the same spot about 5 minutes later.
Finally, got it. Had to take /cheer off the macro. Once targeted, run up close to the candle then /cheer. It went right in my pet journal.
only found out about this beauty due to my sister ... it was hovering by the tree near the cake seller close to the western bank in dal ... two /cheer's and i have a new friend!
I just found out about this pet. I flew around for about 15 minutes looking and nothing. I came back here and read.
There is only one way you are going to get this pet. Create two marcros. First is /tar Nethaera and the second is /cheer. Using the target macro, I immediately found him on the mini-map. Then I used the cheer macro about five times. I had him.
Without the two macros you may never find him.
I used some of the tips fellow commentors left. I made a target macro and added target to my mini map. I found Nethaera's Light in a christmas tree. One cheer gives you the pet. Directly into your inventory NOT in your bags :D
