Drop Rate: 1 in 100
Rarity: Uncommon
Notes:
As of patch 3.1, horde characters are able to obtain this pet by looting alliance-friendly Sprite Darters. Our estimates put the drop rate at approximately 1 in 100. The alliance-only quest noted above is the final quest in a long series of quests. See Dianius' quest walkthrough for details.

Breanni Says:

Until recently, only us alliance folk were able to obtain this pet. I used to feel sorry for all you Hordies out there who didn't know the joy of owning your very own faerie dragon. I even suggested defecting to the alliance to get this little guy. In fact, I still do! Why? Because you'd be able to fight alongside adorable gnomes like me! Wait... why are you looking at me like that? *gulp* C'mon, put down that battle axe... *points* Hey, isn't that Thrall!? *blinks away*
Breanni

It took me round 2 hours to get it to drop in ferales roaming around in a circle where the mobs are!
I can't tell you how happy it made me when blizzard made the HORDE possible to get it :D I had waited for years for it and hoping I could get it for my horde hunter some day and now I have, hehe! It is the most wonderful coloured pet evar :D

This guy is too small, like many other pets. It makes playing a pet-collecting Tauren a little bit of a downer when you can't see your pets very well. On the other hand it is an easy pet to farm for compared to most dropped pets. It took about 100 kills to drop, give or take a little.

For any Horde with auto-loot on trying to get this please bear in mind that, as it's common and BoP, you won't be alerted when you pick this up. I spent hours farming for it only to realise it was already in my bags and I just hadn't noticed (it's easy to miss along with all the other common items you'll end up picking up at the same time).

My favorite Pet of them all.
As a Night Elf she gives me Pride for she is one of our own and full of the Elven Magic. She reminds me of the splendor of our race and a Crowning Jewel to our Mother Elune. Her Wings glorify Elune in their Beauty. As a Druid I am happy to make sure her kind still thrive to astound us all in our walk with Nature. She never fails to bring a smile upon my face.

When I found out horde could finally farm these I was very sad, I have horrible luck farming anything, typically if I see a drop rate I add a x10 multiplier to better prepare myself for what its going to actually be for me. This was an exception, a little bit of dedicated killing should yield this little guy in about an hour or so. Hopefully this is encouragement to farming shy people like me. /shakefist @ all the dragon hatchlings

A good pet to start with for budding pet farmers, since me and my friends have observed this one to actually have a decent drop rate. Unlike those silly whelplings, you can expect to see the hatchling within an hour or two, and the mobs to grind are quite close together. Course, I'm not saying someone could get unlucky...

This is the main reason my pet obsession became what it is. After doing the horribly boring chain to uptain this pet, she was the first "Wow! Where did you get that little cutie?" comment I got. That was it: I'd sold my soul to the pet community. As a warlock, that might be fitting though.

The Alliance quest chain for the Sprite Darter is a bit of a globe trot, so be prepared from some travel time. The plus side is that in addition to having one of the more colorful pets, the chain also gives you a nice chunk of Darnassus and Alliance rep.

I originally got this pet on my Alliance character I made back in 2005. I loved it - even though the quest chain was long. I switched to Horde in 2007. It always made me sad that Horde could not get it. When it became available I jumped on it. Took me about an hour and a half to farm in Feralas.

If I had to do the quest again to get this pet I would. If you ask me, doing the chain of quests for the pet is way worth it.

I was sooo happy when i heard that Horde could finally get this pet, although farming for it was a little bit of trouble! they spawn fast, but there are only a small amount of mos to farm from, and tehre always seems to be someone leveling on them! Totally worth it though, truly one of the most extravagent pets avilable!

ALLIANCE: Recover an orphaned egg from a nest, encase the egg with a protective substance, travel across the globe to ensure that the pet is in the best possible hands, collect food for the pet when it first hatches, and finally, welcome the pet into the world when it hatches and become it's mother.

HORDE: Kill an endless amount of Sprite Darters and rip the un-hatched egg from a dead mother's rotting corpse.

Well, motherhood isn't for everyone.

I had a faction transfer before patch 3.1 and got many confused comments and whispers about my Sprite Darter. But of course as patch 3.1 made it debut and allowed drops for the Horde, it ended.

The main characteristic that I find amazing about this pet is the colouration, which draws players to you like a moth to a flame! The only downfall I get from this mythical "Reptilian Butterfly" is that it's quite tiny and hard to spot.

Otherwise, it is with no doubt one of the best vanity pets! :D

This is one of the best pets in the game and i'm hoping Blizz will make them able to follow you on your flying mount soon. I honestly feel bad for the Horde who have to farm it while us Alliance get to do one of the best pet-earning quest chain in the game. The pet best fits if you are a Roleplaying night elf since they were introduced in Warcraft 3 as one of the flying creatures the night elf faction could make. They are also carnivores, so watch out Taurens, they may want some steak. >:D

Horde players can do several Faerie Dragon-killing quests at the same time: "A New Cloak's Sheen", where an Orc wants the dragons' shimmering wings to make a cloak for his wife (awwww!) and "Faerie Dragon Muisek", part of the Muisek quest chain for the Troll Witch Doctor Uzer'i. Might as well get some Orgrimmar and Darkspear rep while farming the little buggers.

Dropped on my 112th kill. Also, one of the quest items for the mechanical chicken dropped along the way.

It is my new favorite pet.

I was running through Ferelas today to level up in herbalism (I just switched professions on my main) and decided to take a break and just kill a few Sprite Darters as I usually do when I'm there, in case I get lucky and it drops.

Today, I got lucky, and now have a very colourful pet to show for it. It must be said, though, that it's also somewhat loud, with the constant flapping of wings, but it's adorable.

I have to say, I had a LOT of traveling to do for this series. Taking me from Feralas to The coast, to Darnassus, back to Feralas, to Shimmering flats, to the Hinterlands, and off to find meat. Took about a good 1-3 hours, but it's pretty easy.

i highly recommend circling around killing all darters, bears, wolfs etc. rinsing and repeating till you get the drop. respawn rate is decent - once you make a full round they are already starting to respawn....avg 30-50 kills for egg to drop...GL farming!!!!

So I started farming for about 30 minutes and then got a wicked case of ADD and started leveling my Shaman. I wait a day, log back into my paladin to start farming again, and I get it on my first drop!
