Notes:
This is one of several raptor companions introduced in patch 3.2. Dart is a rare spawn who circles through northern Dustwallow Marsh roughly every 5-8 hours. This pet will occasionally run around in a random pattern leaving a trail of dust behind.

Breanni Says:

Hunting Log, Day 14: Today my raptor hatchling expedition brings me to Dustwallow Marsh in search of Dart. Dart's a particularly fast raptor, so I've come armed with a giant turkey dinner and my favorite slow spell. My plan is to slow the beast, lull him into a false sense of security by feeding him a four-course meal, then I'll let the tryptophan do the rest. Of course, this all assumes I tag him. Everyone and their mother seems to be hunting him...
Breanni

I've now farmed this little mini-pet 3 times so far, each time with very minimal camping time. A couple tricks:

On my server, it's a fairly active raiding server, that means a vast majority of the server population is in raiding instances from 6pm - 10pm server. That makes it an ideal time period to farm this and other rare spawn mobs.

Either that, or you could always just burn the midnight oil one night, and snag it at 2am during one of your insomnia sessions... but I wouldn't know *inno*

Darting Hatchlings hate enclosed and tiny areas... they start bouncing around like pinballs. Landed on one of the pedestals outside Ulduar and he went hyper for like 15 minutes non-stop.

His darting speed is affected by your current speed, so mount up for hyper speed.

This little hatchling is probably my favorite of all the raptors, with the Ravasaur hatchling coming in a close second.

Since Dart is such a quick devil, I used the macro:

/target Dart
/cast Curse of Exhaustion

Not only is CoE my spell with the furthest distance, but it's instant and slows Dart down significantly, while also aggroing him. This is definitely not necessary, but to any 'locks out there, this is a nice little macro to use. I'm sure other classes could do something similar. ^_^

Dart spawns at 47.5,14.3 and immediately starts running south. For high-level characters (45+ on PVE servers, 80 on PVP), you can place a camper near the quest giver just to the south of the spawn point. Dart will run right past you when he pops. For lower level campers, I found a spot on a hill just to the east of the spawn point where no mobs path, but you need to be paying attention so Dart doesn't get too far ahead of you before you can catch/tag him.

I pwn this one.
1. Get the addon NPCscan for alerting you to a rare in the area.
2. Make a target macro: /targetexact Dart
/stopmacro [noexists]
/script
playsoundfile("sound\\Interface\\raidwarning.wav)

He spawns at 47.14, in the hills in back of the wreaked camp. On a 6 hr, 21 min respawn. Got him at 11:51am and 11:32am, EST. Weekdays are best, try to get close to the spawn point to avoid ninjas. Fly into Brackenwall and go west to 47.14!

Hello,
This pet is part of the new special vanity pets tracking achievement which has been data mined from the 3.3 PTR
As Sateena said, "It tracks several of the rarer pets including whelplings, raptor hatchlings, crocolisks and more".

I was just questing in Dustwallow Marsh, I actually intended to run away from this; I didn't want to aggro too many raptors, but when I killed it and looted it, I was in for a surprise, a pet, one that was apparently sought after by many people, I originally planned to sell it on the auction house, but I decided to keep it.

3.3 Patch notes

Hatchlings: Leaping, Darting, Razormaw, and Ravasaur Hatchlings no longer drop from their associated rare creatures. Instead, there are now rare nests that spawn which contain these hatchlings. For example, the Leaping Hatchling can now be found in Takk’s Nest rather than as a drop from Takk the Leaper.

Caught mine today. I parked my death knight under a tree on the raptor area and logged on every now and then to check, and today Dart was there. I've found that the best tactic with these rare spawns.

Dart was so easy for me i got him with in 2 mins of being there. I almost captured him instead of killing him which would of been bad. :P

Every time I've looked, there has always been at least one person camping him. Yesterday I went and no one was there. Two minutes later Dart spawns and I just about die from the shock of my good luck.

Hello all! Was making rounds collecting the raptor set. After reading some tips in the posts, I decided to check on Dart in Dustwallow Marsh, NPCscan rang and found Dart running ( more like sprinting) at 47, 15. Time found was 12:00p.m. EU server time. Thanks a bunch for those who posted, was very helpful! Glad i did not give in to the AH! PHEW. Good luck to those who still are looking for Dart, he is a fine pet!

I was pretty lucky. :) I went today to the location which was given in Dustwallow Marsh and my SilverDragon addon spotted him immediately. It was hard to notice at first where exactly he is cos' the mob is sprinting all around the place but finally I caught him at 10:05am server time (48.9; 18.4).
The pet is adorable and it is my 5th one so only 3 to go. :)
GL all.

Got this and the other 3 hatchling, love 3.3.0, after the restart, nobody was camping and easily got these 4 new wonderful pets ^^, there are nest in the region, as stated in the patch notes, best luck to all of you!
PD: Btw, I also have the deviate, so I think I'm kind of a raptor raiser :D

I forgot about the new changes to finding these little guys, until after I killed Dart and said, "Where the heck is it?!" Thus begins my quest in finding out more about said nests. I did eventually found one, Takk's nest. So for those not in the known here's a quickie about them; These nests can't be "targeted". Your pointer turns into a action cog, when you move it over the nest. So spamming /target macros while running around won't help. What they look like is a few eggs inside a grass bed. GL

Like with the other Raptor hatchlings, just start looking under trees in the spawn area. Easiest way to find them. I started doing them right after the server restart, and I've got two down, with two to go ^^

I dunno when this happened (i think it was in the latest patch) but to get this guy you need to work with the nest. This makes it easier cause you dont have to wait for him to wait for it to run around...

As of 3.3 this and the other ones that drop from rare NPC no longer do, you find them from rare nest near them.

Well, followed everyone's advice, and decided to do some patrolling of the Dart spawn area when my server came back online from maintenance. Around 5:08pm Server time, I finally got my Hatchling. (2 hours and 50 minutes after the server came up) Oddly, I also had Dart himself make an appearance, and get grounded for his troubles at 4:48 pm Server Time. The co-ords I found my egg at was 47.48, 17.18 between two trees. GL with your hunts, as that completed all my non-dungeon hatchlings.

My server time is also my time, but I sleep during the day and am up at night. (I have an overnight job). So this guy is always there when I check between instances. I've made over 10k gold off this little guy and the Leaping Hatchling. (I also kept one of each for myself, naturally) I've gotten 7 Leaping Hatchlings and 5 Darting Hatchlings so far. :)
